This month we want to bring awareness to the Movember Foundation
One of the main goals of the Movement strives to:

  • Reduced mortality from prostate, testicular cancer and educates men living with Prostate or testicular cancer to live physically and mentally well lives

Did you know?

  • Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men ages 15-35. 8,820 new cases are diagnosed each year of these an average of 380 fatalities occur annually from this form of cancer.
  • In 2014, more than 233,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. It is the second most common cancer found in men in the United States.

These cancers are highly treatable, and can be effectively treated, and potentially cured, if diagnosed and treated early. If diagnosed, the most important step is to talk your doctor about treatment choices. In choosing a treatment plan, factors such as your overall health and the type and stage of the cancer should be considered. You may consider getting a second or third doctor’s opinion.
As you seek treatment please know that there are many ways that Physical Therapy can help, many Physical therapists offer Cancer related fatigue programs.

The number one complaint of cancer patients, affecting 78% to 96% of those undergoing treatment, is cancer related fatigue(CRF). Our goal in Physical Therapy is to help you become as independent as possible. Anyone who experiences signs and symptoms of pain or loss of function would benefit from an individualized physical therapy program.
Physical therapy can help you recover from:

  • Chronic pain
  • Leg pain
  • Shortness of breath after light activity
  • Difficulty walking short distances
  • Difficulty performing daily tasks
  • Extreme weariness and tiredness
  • Difficulty paying attention or concentrating

A licensed Physical Therapist can provide specialized therapeutic services that address the needs of CRF patients. Therapy sessions last approximately thirty minutes to one hour, depending on the patient’s tolerance. The average number of visits per week is 2-3. The physical therapy program is concurrent with the cancer therapy and may last throughout the entire treatment phase. A CRF program requires a thorough physical therapy evaluation and a team approach with your physician is maintained, to take a stepping stone approach towards your recovery.

Use non-drug based treatments such as physical modalities:
